A brief report of each game is as follows: GAME 1 vs NIUE: In one of the upsets of the tournament Thailand defeated the experienced and skilful Pacific Island nation 24-20. The Stars controlled the ball really well and with good shape were able to post tries when it mattered to hold off Niue who later defeated Greece and made the Shield Final. Tries to: Charlie Jones 2, Michael Flynn, Dylan Baxter and to our scholarship player Sakda Suttiprapha. Tyler Chant 2 goals. 3 pts: Charlie Jones 2 pts: Matt Colgrave 1 pt: Dylan Baxter GAME 2 vs MALTA: Thailand started well with some good completions and tough defence but the Maltese caught us on the edges with their quick play the balls and had us for size winning 22-4. Try to: Charlie Jones. 3 pts: Charlie Jones 2 pts: Dylan Baxter 1 pt: Willie Savanh GAME 3 vs PHILIPPINES 2: The boys were up for this one against our traditional rivals which saw some brutal defence from both sides. It was 2 tries each in the end but unfortunately we couldnt kick a goal and we lost 12-8. Wit also had a try disallowed which appeared to be a tough call. Great game of football. Tries to: Charlie Jones and Dylan Baxter. 3 pts: Charlie Jones 2 pts: Teerawit Thuvirat 1 pt: Sakda Suttiprapha GAME 4 vs PHILIPPINES UNDER 20s: After 3 tough pool games and in stifling heat the boys after also backing up from Thursdays game started to struggle physically. In a game which went try for try the Stars were finishing all over the top in this one until a massive Dylan Baxter hit caused an injury to one of the Philippines players who was unable to move. With no time off the game stayed at 16-14 for the remaining 4 minutes of the second half. Bit stiff here the boys but thankfully the Philippines player was ok. Tries to: Alex Tate 2, Michael Flynn. When fresh this team showed what they were capable of with a win over Niue. Looking promising for future tournaments. We would like to thank all the Thailand supporters for coming out to cheer us on especially the Thai Mums who looked after the boys so well with food and massages. Special mention goes to our manager Col Smithers who went above and beyond to ensure the boys were well looked after on the day. Coaches Award went to Charlie Jones who had an outstanding tournament.
