CABVI received the following email from Katie Keating at the United States Association of Blind Athletes. CABVI WON THE NATIONAL GOLD MEDAL FOR ITS OLYMPIC DAY ACTIVITIES JUNE 21: It has been enjoyable to check out all the cool pictures and learn more about each exciting Olympic Day event from the 15 participating hosts in the USABA/WellPoint Foundation National Fitness Challenge. The monthly contest for June was “Olympic Day Participation.” Organizations that hosted an Olympic Day event were eligible to receive a monetary prize. The USABA Olympic Judge Panel analyzed each event based on the three criteria given – Have the most percentage of participants attend, create media attention, and engage with their local WellPoint Foundation agency. The competition was very competitive and there were many organizations so close to each other that we decided to split fourth place (or Bronze Medal 2) between two organizations. USABA is pleased to congratulate the following winners: GOLD MEDAL ($1,000) – Central Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired (CABVI), Utica, New York SILVER MEDAL ($750) – Cincinnati Association for the Blind, Ohio BRONZE MEDAL ($500) – Association for Vision Rehabilitation and Employment (A.V.R.E.), Binghamton, New York BRONZE MEDAL 2 ($250 each) – Tampa Lighthouse, Florida Cleveland Sight Center, Ohio Congratulations to all 15 participating agencies! We encourage you to use the prize money to further enhance your organization’s sport programming. Thank you again for promoting the Olympic and Paralympic ideals while simultaneously encouraging participants to live a more active lifestyle.
