CAHERDAVIN CELTIC SOCCER NOTES 24/11/14 U10: Mungret Regional 1 Caherdavin Celtic 4 Our Under 10s chalked up an excellent 4-1 away win against Mungret Regional in Mungret on Saturday morning. With slope and wind advantage in the opening half we struck four times. Colm Lenihan put us on our way with a fine individualist effort with Aaron Byrnes making it 2-0 with a cracking goal from a free kick way out on the right. Tom O’Brien set up Colm Lenihan for our third while Liam Hickey scrambled home to leave us in a strong position. The hosts pulled one back midway through the second half. On duty were: Steven Connolly Kelly, Thomas Hourigan, Ben Meehan, Jack O’Shea, Adam Curtis, Colm Lenihan, Tom O’Brien, Liam Hickey, Conor McNamara, Aaron Byrnes, Jake Kelleher, Scott Moloney U12: Caherdavin Celtic 0 Limerick FC 3 Our Under 12s went under to the tune of 3-0 against Limerick FC at the Greenhills. Both sides created chances – the visitors took theirs. Charles Hogan and Darragh Shine were unlucky not to find the net. The visitors led 1-0 at the break. On the day we were best served by Ronan O’Dwyer, Riain O’Connell, Alex Houlihan, Luke Hegarty and Jeff Okwuegbe. U14: Mungret Regional 4 Caherdavin Celtic ‘A’ 2 This game took place at Castlemungret on Saturday morning. The home side struck fifteen minutes in but were were level within minutes, Conor O’Shaughnessy firing home from a direct free kick. There was drama aplenty in the latter stages. We had enjoyed a very good spell but conceded a penalty which was missed. We felt we were denied a legitimate penalty before Mungret Regional struck three times in rapid succession to leave us shell-shocked. The lads dug deep in the second half – in fact we missed a great chance in the early minutes – holding the hosts scoreless while, new signing, Craig Reale marked his debut with a goal to leave the final score 4-2 in favour of Mungret Regional. Ben Irwin was outstanding in defence with best support coming from Keith Dempsey, Ian Leonard and Ben Frost. The lads will be in action again next weekend when we take on Limerick FC in a Goodison Cup replay at Hogan Park on Sunday. It was a cracker last time round finishing 2-2 so we can expect more of the same on Sunday. Kick-off is 2.00pm U14: Caherdavin Celtic 0 Star Rvs 5 Our 14Bs went down 5-0 to a strong Star Rvs outfit. Star’s superior finishing won the day but there was no shortage of commitment from our lads (we were without three first choice players) particularly in the second half. Team captain, Alan Neill, gave a fine display with Killian Ryan, Damon Lee and Rhys Dunne also catching the eye. Our line-up was: Damon Lee, Josh Moore, Stuart O’Neill, Rhys Dunne, David Bennett, Sage Kaya, Killian Ryan, Joachim Clohessy, Alan Neill, Darragh Dineen, Luke Hogan Reserves: Gareth O’Brien, Joey Hempenstall, Daniel Brewster (all used) U16: Coonagh Utd 2 Caherdavin Celtic 3 A close call this one as our lads came from two goals down to beat neighbours Coonagh Utd in a local derby played at the Coonagh Sports grounds on Saturday. We had won the home leg earlier in the season but it’s always tricky when the bragging rights are at stake. We found ourselves a goal down two minutes in and when the homesters added a second early in the second half (following an indirect free) it didn’t look particularly promising. We weren’t playing well and were facing into the wind. A triple substitution in the 15th minute which saw the introduction of Cian O’Rahilly, Darragh O’Gorman and Alex Lenihan had the desired effect as we began to play with confidence. Left back, Kieran O’Connor, was pivotal in our efforts to get back in the game and it was his assist that enabled Martin Duggan to reduce the arrears. He was involved in the build up to our second goal also feeding Alex Lenihan who sent the pacy Cian O’Rahilly away on the left and, though hotly pursued, directed home from an acute angle to tie the scores. Keeper, Jack O’Sullivan, had to make several smart saves with the game very much in the balance but our greater physical strength was telling and Martin Duggan’s pace and persistence were rewarded as he grabbed the winner with about five minutes left on the clock. A fine victory then for Stephen Collins and Co. Well done to all concerned. Our team was: Jack O’Sullivan, Jack Murphy, Kieran O’Connor, Paul Considine, Jordan Curry, Martin Duggan, Dylan Meehan, Ryain Ahern, Christopher O’Hagan, Tyrone Cronin, Jamie Stickle Subs used: Cian O’Rahilly, Alex Lenihan, Darragh O’Gorman, Sam Frost Referee was Mick Bourke Minor: Aisling Annacotty 5 Caherdavin Celtic 1 This game played under lights, on Aisling’s all-weather pitch in Annacotty resulted in a 5-1 win for the home side – a couple of late goals by the home side putting a bit of gloss on the scoreline. We were without several first choice players and it was the Aisling boys, in fairness, who created the bulk of the scoring chances throughout on an absolutely freezing, foggy night. Jamie Moore grabbed our goal, Jason Callinan having provided the assist. We would have netted a couple of more goals ourselves but by the same token so could Aisling with stand-in keeper, Peter Casey making a string of fine saves. Our team was: Peter Casey, Rioghan butler, Keith Staunton, David Broderick, Luke Moylan, Cian de Brun, Dylan Meehan, Jordan Connolly, Gearoid Brennan, Jason Callinan, Jamie Moore Subs: Jamie Wilson (used), Eamonn Courtney Fixtures: Sat, Nov 29th U11A v Fairview 10.30am Fairview U11B v Parkville 10.30am Greenhills U13 v Limerick FC 12.00pm Greenhills U15 v Regional ‘B’ 2.00pm Greenhills Sun, Nov 30th U14’A’ v Limerick FC 2.00pm Hogan Park Goodison Cup Notes: • Check out all Club news, photos, etc. on our website Caherdavin Celtic F.C. caherdavinceltic or on our Facebook page.
