#CAIR-MI to Join Call for Federal Monitoring of Dearborn Heights Elections (SOUTHFIELD, MI, 8/1/2014) – On Saturday, August 2, the Michigan chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-MI) and other civil rights organizations will hold a press conference to call on the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) to monitor the upcoming primary and November elections in Dearborn Heights because of concerns about possible efforts to suppress the votes of Arab-Americans and Muslims. Walid also stated that an ADC-MI representative will be at the press conference to present new information that has not been previously discussed regarding voting irregularities in Dearborn Heights. After concerns were raised by the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee - Michigan (ADC-MI) about absentee ballots of Arab Americans not being properly processed and American Muslims being turned away from the polls, CAIR-MI and other advocacy groups today wrote the DOJ urgently requesting federal monitoring of the upcoming primary in Dearborn Heights.
