TOPIC - 2013 Hindenburg Wall (PNG) Biodiversity Discovery Expedition presentation by Dr Michael Hammer Dr Michael Hammer is an aquatic ecologist, with 15 years studying and observing fishes and their habitats, especially Australian freshwater species. He is the Curator of Fishes at the Museum and Arts Gallery of the Northern Territory in Darwin, a new appointment taken up in late 2011. In February 2013 staff from the NT Museum joined a Wildlife Conservation Society expedition to the Hindenburg Wall region of Papua New Guinea where around 80 new species of plants and animals were discovered! This presentation features some interesting fish like the Ok Tedi Rainbowfish, but more broadly shows what it is like to spend a month in remote tropical jungle working closely with local communities as part of a team contributing to biodiversity conservation.
