CALABAR: God Forbid, I will Not Hand Over To My Friend – Imoke By: CrossRiverWatch/Admin. Contrary to the belief of many political analysts that the incumbent governor of Cross River State, Liyel Imoke will hand over to one of the “three wise men” from the southern senatorial district, even amidst continuous assurances from the governor that power must go to the northern part of the State, Imoke has again said ‘I will not hand over power to my friend, God forbid!’. Speaking at the executive chamber of the governor’s office, Calabar when he played host to the new state executive of the Nigerian Labor Congress led by its chairman comrade John Ushie,Imoke said the process of producing the next governor of the state should be all encompassing, stressing that the organize Labor has a critical role to play in the transition. While maintaining that the next governor will come from the Northern Senatorial district for equity, stability and fairness, Imoke said,”I heard that some people have been saying don’t mind him, he will hand over to his friend from the South and all that, that is the imagination of some politicians and not my position. “You know at this period, different information will be flying, skepticism will be all over the place even after we must have produced the governor from the North and sworn him in, some people will say don’t mind Imoke he will engineer tribunal that will remove the person from office to pave way for his preferred person. “All we need from you as a government is support for smooth transition which I charge you as labor leaders to be part of because Imoke will not produce the next governor but the people will do. “If you are waiting for me to name the next governor, then it means we are not ready for one be that, because I will not name anyone. “We,(PDP and Government) have said the Governorship is zoned to the North and “GOD FORBID “if it goes to the South; the people from that part of the state will feel excluded and equity, fairness and togetherness we are preaching will not be there again. “Cross River cannot afford to go back to that era of division where there were cracks everywhere.” he said. Earlier, the State Chairman of the Nigerian Labor Congress, NLC Comrade John Ushie who said labor has always fought for equity and justice commended the governor for having a big heart to pronounce the zoning of the governorship to the Northern part of the State. Ushie said the organized labor will give necessary support to the government to attain the goal. follow us on twitter @crossriverwatch
