CALIBRA TOUR S REVIEW by Coach Louise Eballa (DLSU Asst. Coach): Appearance- when I first saw the calibra tour S, I was in disbelieve because of it’s weird looking top sheet, it is grainy and different compare to the traditional inverted rubbers that I’ve used before. Anybody can actually feel the rough top sheet. The rubber reminds me off the hobby bats of Stiga that my grandfather gave me when I started to play table tennis however; the good side of it is that the sponge is quite porous compare to its predecessor calibra LT sound. The rubber is also as light as the calibra lt sound. Backhand topspin drill: I decided to put the rubber sheet on my backhand using rubber cement and when I started hitting some backhand drills near the table at first I was expecting that the rubber will produce less grip because of the rough and grainy top sheet but I was surprised that the rubber felt just fine I can easily hit the balls without worrying of the ball dropping into the net. When I started to perform backhand topspin mid distance I can easily generate enough amount of spin just like the backhand topspin when I as using calibra sound lt Blocks: this area is where the rubber shines blocking with the Calibra tour s makes it easy because I felt that the rubber is not sensitive to incoming spin passive and active blocks can be perform with this rubber you can easily place the ball anywhere on the opponents table. I was also able to perform punch blocks with this rubber. Receiving: due to the different top sheet Calibra tour s can give you an edge in receiving services you can place short low returns I was able to drop the ball low while receiving different services with spin. The rubber can also enable to perform banana receives it can put spin to the ball and make it curve while this receive. Overall I can say that the calibra tour s is a promising rubber because of its versatility in any shot that I made in my backhand even though I was not able to try tour h for forehand I am quite sure that the rubber will be as exciting to use the as the calibra tour s.
