The bill, as passed by the judiciary committee, makes a couple of simple, yet important changes to current law to give Kentucky law enforcement the same tools to combat dogfighting which are currently in place in 49 other states, it also clarifies that a “reasonable person” standard is in place, as it exists in many other Kentucky statutes, which will make prosecutions easier to bring. These small amendments will have no impact on humane societies (as has been wrongly suggested), and will also include protection for the offspring in the law, as the selling of puppies is a major revenue source for dogfighters.
