CALL FOR PUBLIC TO GET INVOLVED IN MELA FESTIVAL A CALL-OUT has been made for members of the public to get involved in the biggest multi-cultural event on Teesside. Middlesbrough Mela is firmly established in many people’s social calendars and has become renowned for being a safe, family fun weekend for people from all sectors of society regardless of race, religion, age or social status - a true advert for community cohesion and cultural diversity. On Monday October 14, the Middlesbrough Mela Association is holding its Annual General Meeting (AGM) at Middlesbrough Town Hall. The AGM will begin at 7pm with official AGM business, including the presentation of the Annual Report and Treasurer’s Report to the Association members followed by the election of Mela Association Committee Members for the year 2013-14. The Association is seeking new committee members, including two young people aged 16-18, who would like to be part of the team. New committee members will be involved in the actual running of the Mela so an interest in the successful development and management of the Mela, plus a willingness to attend and contribute to monthly meetings, is crucial. The Association is also keen to encourage membership from all cultures and neighbourhoods.
