CALL TO ACTION--whether you live in Newport Mesa or other school - TopicsExpress

CALL TO ACTION--whether you live in Newport Mesa or other school districts in the State of California, we need your help to prevent the recent proposed budget trailer bill which in simple language take funds from local school district reserves, eliminates local control, and punishes fiscally sound districts for setting aside money for unexpected large expenses, recessions, or large capital expenditure planning. Please contact your legislature TODAY and urge a NO vote on the Gov Trailer Bill to Cap Local Reserves. A VOTE OCCURS THIS WEEK. Here is a link to find your legislature. (The proposed trailer bill language would require governing boards to justify their reserves if they exceed the state-mandated minimums. On top of that, the proposal intends to make it illegal for any local educational agency (LEA) to hold reserves that are more than twice the state minimum if the Governor’s Rainy Day reserve proposal is approved by the voters in November.)
