CALL TO LEGISLATIVE ACTION: Civil Rights Activism 101. In my humble opinion (thats the personal opinion of Shalonda Tanner), the ultimate goal of civil rights activism and social justice IS legislative change through action that advances the legislative consciousness of the law/policy makers and the citizens governed by those laws/policies in a positive, impactful, and progressive way. The attached @NAACP Video entitled On the Road - The Journey For Justice, spells out why we march in a 2 minute & 37 second soundbite. Its a historical teaching moment and class is currently in session! In 1965, Martin Luther King, Jr. led a march from Selma to Montgomery that led to legislation on equal voting rights. In 2014, civil rights activists hope their 193 kilometer [120 mile], 7 day march from the site of the police killing of unarmed teenager #MichaelBrown in #Ferguson in to the governor of Missouris mansion will also lead to a change in the law. #NAACP President and CEO Cornell William Brooks goes on to state that we are Looking for legislation to end racial profiling. Theres a bill called the End to Racial Profiling Act that were looking to pass. Putting body cameras on police officers. What can you do next? Now I along with a coalition of other national civil rights organizations and activists, are personally asking you to contact your legislators for the passage of the End Racial Profiling Act of 2013 (ERPA) legislative bills: S.1038/H.R. 2851. If you dont know what all the fuss is all about, now you know. Share this #NAACP Video to help educate everyone in your networks to be a change agent for social justice. You now are equipped with the tools for #ForwardMovement so you can #BeTheChange with #EachOneTeachOne #EachOneReachOne #SOcialACTion @NAACPMetuchenEdisonNJ New Brunswick Area Naacp
