Strategic Purpose The Diploma in Management (Healthcare) Level 7 will provide healthcare business organisations with people who have the skills and knowledge to manage and lead a business and/or within an organisation. Graduates will have the skills and knowledge needed for effective management and leadership of healthcare businesses and organisations, leading to increase in productivity. Aim The Diploma in Management (Healthcare) Level 7 is aimed at those aged 20 and above who are moving into careers in healthcare management and current health professionals working in a management, policy or analysis role who wish to gain advanced knowledge and skills in the management of elder healthcare facilities. Graduate Profile A graduate of this programme will be able to demonstrate advanced generic management skills in addition to specialist knowledge and skills in the professional context of healthcare management of the elderly. Graduates may undertake higher studies towards other healthcare qualifications at degree level, or relevant industry qualifications and/or work in a range of managerial or leadership roles either at the domestic or international healthcare businesses and organisations. Pathways Graduates of this programme may able to work fulltime or gain employment in a range of managerial or leadership roles either at the domestic or international healthcare businesses and organisations. Positions open to graduates may include Healthcare Facility Administrator, Healthcare Unit Coordinators, Healthcare Unit Manager, Residential Services Assistant Manager, Residential Services Manager,Day Service Assistant Manager, Day Service Managers, and Health and Welfare Services Manager. Graduates may also undertake further study towards other healthcare qualifications at degree level, or relevant industry qualifications. Programme Structure The Diploma in Management (Healthcare)Level 7 is the only healthcare programme where students will be exposed to real healthcare work environment (Related Learning Experience) as part of the training. Students will be placed to actual 80-hour work as part of the training. This is to give the students the first hand experience of working in a managerial role and also a real world experience of management within Elder Care and their ability to use the incumbent as a real resource of knowledge and skill. The programme is composed of six (6) papers which represent healthcare management themes i.e. Managing Organisational Equality and Diversity; Strategic Human Resource Management;Risk Management; Support Planning for Geriatric Health Conditions; Related Learning Experience (Work Placement); and International Healthcare Policy . A school year will be divided into six learning blocks with 7 weeks duration each. There will be three (3) contact days per week or a total of twenty one (21) contact hours per week. In addition, there will be fourteen (14) hours of self-directed learning per week. A modular system approach will be adopted in programme delivery to provide adequate coverage of the curriculum and to maintain students’interests. The modular approach gives students the flexibility of concentrating on one subject/paper/module, thereby they are able to absorb the information more easily thus enhances their mastery of the subject matter instead of trying to rush through all the assignments/projects. In addition, the modular system approach gives students more time to engage in activity-based learning opportunities which eventually result in the mastery of the skills and improved learning experiences. Admission Criteria Appropriate entry requirements to the level of study are in place to ensure that applicants who have reasonable likelihood of completing the programme are accepted. Age : 20 years old or above Education: Domestic/Onshore applicants : Must provide evidence of a tertiary qualification at level 6 in health-related fields such as nursing, allied health, midwifery, medicine, health leadership (no work experience required); OR provide evidence of a minimum of 2 years fulltime work experience (either paid or voluntary) in the medical or health-related fields, preferably within Elder Care. Such applicants will need to submit a current CV and copies of two professional references, and undergo a pre-entry interview to establish their suitability. International students : Must provide evidence of a tertiary qualification at level 6 in health-related fields such as nursing, allied health, midwifery, medicine, health leadership (no work experience required); OR provide evidence of a minimum of 2 years fulltime work experience (either paid or voluntary) in the medical or health-related fields, preferably within Elder Care. Such applicants will need to submit a current CV and copies of two professional references, and undergo a pre-entry interview to establish their suitability. Language Proficiency: If English is not their first language, applicants provide evidence of one of the following: IELTS 6.0 overall band score with a minimum score of 5.5 in reading, listening, writing and speaking; OR TOEFL (pBT) 500 (essay 4TWE), OR TOEFL (iBT) 60 (writing 20), OR Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) Applicants whose first language is English and have completed their qualification from any institutions overseas listed on Immigration New Zealand’s List of Qualifications Exempt from Assessment are may be exempted from IELTS/TOEFL/CAE requirements. But have to provide satisfactory evidence of their proficiency in English in the form of (1)written statement from the institution specifying among others that English is a medium of instruction and (2)passing an interview and/or entrance test.
