CAMFT Achieves Recognition for LMFTs and Interns as Medi-Cal Providers Last year, CAMFT and other stakeholders worked with the Department of Health Care Services to remove the barriers prohibiting LMFTs and Registered Interns from being officially recognized as Medi-Cal providers. On May 2, the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services approved the State Plan Amendment (SPA 14-012) adding LMFTs and registered interns to the list of providers of psychology services for Medi-Cal. This will allow private practitioners who are not already seeing Medi-Cal clients through contracts with the County or Medi-Cal Managed Care plans to take on Medi-Cal clients and directly bill Medi-Cal for the mental health services provided. The Department of Health Care Services Provider Enrollment Division is working to clarify the process for enrolling MFTs as Medi-Cal providers.
