CAMP CREEK COMPLEX FIRE UPDATE 8/7/2014 The Camp Creek Complex includes several small fires on the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest in southern Oregon. PNW Team 3 will transfer command of the Complex to a Type 3 Incident Management Team on Friday morning. This will be the team’s last Camp Creek Complex fire update. Yesterday’s Activities: Bailey Fire (15 acres), Camp Creek Fire (15 acres) and Cluster Fire (50 acres) are contained and in patrol status. The fires in the Seven Lakes Basin (736, 738 and 828) are also in patrol status. Firefighters worked to construct and improve line on Fire 668, on the north slope of Mt. McLoughlin. Smith Rock Cluster, is a group of small fires in a basin north of Smith Rock. Crews found an additional fire in the cluster yesterday. Work continued as they build and strengthen fireline. Fire 666 is less than one acre in size, east of the Smith Rock Cluster. Firefighters worked on containment. Mop-up continued on Fire 672. The 40 acre fire in Sky Lakes Wilderness is about 90% contained. Crews lined and mopped up Fire 833 in the Wickiup Creek Drainage. It will be patrolled today. Fuels began drying out on Fire 790. The fire is about 300 acres in the Sky Lakes Wilderness. Firefighters continued implementing the indirect suppression strategy by clearing ladder and ground fuels from alongside the roads that will be used for containment lines. Weather and Fire Behavior: Relative humidity levels were lower Wednesday and are expected to be about 24% again today. Temperatures and winds for today are expected to reflect yesterday’s weather patterns. Firefighters continue to find new fires each day. Today’s Planned Actions: Patrol, containment and mop-up work is ongoing. Fires 736, 738 and 828, along with Bailey, Camp Creek and Cluster Fires are in patrol status; firefighters are monitoring to ensure that any heat remains well within the perimeter. Fire 668: The fire will be patrolled from the air after mop-up efforts to strengthen containment lines finishes today. Smith Rock Cluster: The crews will continue to take advantage of natural barriers as they work to contain the fires near Smith Rocks. Fire 672: Firefighters are finishing containment and mopping up using Minimum Impact Suppression Tactics, or MIST in the Wilderness portion. Fire 790: Firefighters are reducing ground and ladder fuels along the road perimeter in preparation for using the roads as containment lines for indirect suppression. A Wildland Fire Module is in place and working on the fire. Fire 666: Crews have contained and mopped up Fire 666. They will respond to a newly detected fire about 1 mile north of their current location.
