CAMPAIGN FOR PRESIDENT 2016 Rand Paul Wins 2014 CPAC Straw Poll, Ted Cruz Finishes A Distant Second Sen. Rand Paul demolished his competition in the 2014 Washington Times/CPAC presidential preference straw poll on Saturday, winning 31 percent of the vote — nearly three times the total of second-place Sen. Ted Cruz. Rand Paul needs to rethink his foreign policy ideas. Being an isolationist is not necessarily Libertarian. As Ive said, liberty is the freedom to do what you want as long as you dont violate the liberty of others. That being acceptable, then that definition applied to foreign relations says that other countries cannot violate our liberty. If they do, we need a way to stop them which means we need a Defense Department. It is surely true that the US has made excursions where its liberty was not violated or maybe even threatened; that should not happen. What about threats? Do threats without any action constitute a violation of liberty? I say it does as one should have the freedom to enjoy ones life without threats being thrown at us. Talk is cheap so we must be sure that the threat is real, not just words. But we shouldnt have to live a life of fear; that is a violation of our liberty. Israel does not deserve to have threats to blow them off the face of the earth thrown at them daily. And most of us would believe those are real threats. Without the ability to retaliate, most would agree Israel would be doomed. So I think Rand Paul needs to base his foreign policy on these principles, not just isolationism because other countries wont necessarily reciprocate. newsbalance/rand-paul-wins-2014-cpac-straw-poll-ted-cruz-finishes-a-distant-second-2014-03-09.article
