CAN NAMWAMBA BREAK THE CULTURE OF ETHNIC NATIONALISM? Ethnic nationalism is an ‘accepted’ code of African politics. While Miguna Miguna calls for a ‘dialogue’ in Luo Nation, he is simply exercising the ‘impossible mission.’ Tribe factor, ethnic loyalty and party factionalism are the tenets of any African politician. Without the so-called ‘old-guards’ like Raila himself, Anyang’ Nyong’o, James Orengo, Otieno Kajwang…and others Luo politics, like any other ethnic-based politics in Kenya are ‘vaguely incomplete.’ These Old Guards have to be there, as the custodians of the interests of tribal politics. Therefore, Ababu Namwamba and co- ‘The Alternative Third Force’ have to play a very difficult game, the game of disentangling the mindsets of the loyal ordinary Nyanza citizenry from the inclinations of ‘baba’ and his position at the Sole Custodian of Nyanza Politics. It will be a fierce battle to fight. But going by his new consciential approach, Namwamba appears ready to spearhead a ‘revolutionary political battle.’ Will he succeed? In a trial to ‘delegitimize’ Uhuru Kenyatta, as the Mt Kenya’s and GEMA political and ethnic kingpin, Martha Karua and Peter Kenneth failed miserably. They became victims of their trial to ‘break’ the Kenyatta Institution of Mt Kenya politics. The curse of political taboo befell unto them…and seemingly became political outcasts in GEMA nation. Lesson: although with Alfred Mutuas, Raphael Tujus, Abdikadir Mohammeds as the visible faces of ethnic political redemption.., changing the conservative mindsets of our populace remains the daunting task..and always spells doom to those who dare.
