CANADA (I think) - Smart meter safety report expected next week, Medicine Hat News, 26th November 2014 (No mention of microwave radiation in this brief article...) The safety of Sensus electric smart meters installed in Medicine Hat is expected to be revealed next week in a report by Underwriters Laboratories, says the City’s utilities department. Underwriters Laboratories was asked to undertake a full spectrum of tests including the possibility of water and contaminants leaking into the meters, said Utilities’ spokesperson Wilbur McLean. A total of 29,000 meters had been installed in Medicine Hat by this summer with the project 95 per cent complete. Further installations were put on hold after smart meter fires were reported in Saskatchewan and while an investigation was done here. McLean says no further installations of electric smart meters have taken place since. There have been 49 incidents in Medicine Hat related to the socket base where the meter is installed. An investigation of these alarms has revealed issues with customer infrastructure including hot or loose jaws, the part of the meter socket to which the meter is clipped, cracked meter bases, and wiring issues. medicinehatnews/news/local-news/2014/11/25/smart-meter-safety-report-expected-next-week/
