CANCER UPDATE 8.9.14 : Have had a bit of a physical backslide this past week. More coughing/wretching/dry heaves, more thick phlegm and mucus production. More sore throat, more headache, more generalized physical pain and fatigue. Have lost 5 more pounds, down to 175 lbs. Have not been able to take my daily walks. Less stamina, and have gone back to taking naps. Saw a specialist in speech pathology about my continued inability to successfully swallow. She explained how the radiation has scarred my cartilage structures in my throat. So the swallow muscles are working fine, but the structures that need to move in order for swallowing to be successful and get everything past the epiglottis and the upper esophageal sphincter muscle and into the esophagus are not moving the way they are supposed to because of fibrin scar formation. So I have an appointment in a couple of weeks for a procedure to help gauge how extensive the damage is, and then I have two weeks in September scheduled for what I call swallow therapy to try and figure out how were going to overcome this. Im ready to eat F.O.O.D. again. I do NOT want to be getting nutrition from a feeding tube the rest of my life!
