CAPE TOWN RECEIVES THREE TOP TRAVEL AWARDS AS BEST TRAVEL DESTINATION IN THE WORLD CAPE TOWN | Most Capetonians already know they live in one of the best cities in the world. But now its been officially rubber stamped. Lonely Planets Best in Travel guide puts Cape Town at number three in its annual guide of top destinations. Paris in France and Trinidad in Cuba took the top two spots respectively. Lonely Planet says that 2014 marks the twentieth anniversary of South African democracy - honour it by exploring the citys history, the statement read. Cape Town has also received several other key travel accolades this year, including the World Travel Awards which placed Cape Town as the top destination in Africa as well as Africas leading meetings and conference destination. In the recent Conde Nast Traveller Readers Choice Awards, Cape Town was listed at the top of the top 10 cities in Africa and the Middle East and was ranked 11th in the Top 25 cities in the world. Some 80 000 readers cast 1.3 million votes in the survey. These awards pay homage to the citys natural beauty and the huge welcome it extends to international and local tourists.
