CAPS TO ENGAGE A EUROPEAN COACH BY @CHRONICLEZIM FOR @ZIMPAPERSVIEWS THREE years after severing ties with a European coach, former Cup Kings Caps United are today set to unveil another European as their new head coach, Chronicle Sport reveals. Impeccable sources said the new man, set to take over from Taurai Mangwiro, will be assisted by a former Caps United player. A senior Makepekepe official could neither confirm nor deny the imminent arrival of the European coach, choosing to say they needed someone untainted and neutral “as our house is so heavily divided.” Mangwiro left in a huff and took his entire backroom staff. Chief executive officer Joe Makuvire said the new coach will be unveiled today before he gets down to business. Makepekepe were under an Irishman, Sean Connor, in 2012 but the coach had a nightmarish debut of African football losing his first three league matches before club legend Lloyd Chitembwe was roped in to stop the crisis. Connor’s coaching history was always suspect with reports that even back in his native home he held records for the longest losing streak. “We’re finalising one or two issues with our backroom staff. The head coach issue is already done and dusted and we went for someone who we thought was not tainted with our own in- house problems, someone who is neutral into all this because our house is so divided,” said Makuvire. He, however, did not want to reveal the identity of their new man but confirmed that he was not a Zimbabwean. Sources had previously told CUN that former coach Jostein Mathuthu was odds on favourite to take over the reins and was set to be assisted by Alois Bunjira. A number of Premier League sides started their 2015 preseason preparations yesterday but the Makepekepe boat has not been stable since the departure of Mangwiro. A number of the players that turned out for them last season are now free agents while some have joined their rivals in the capital, Harare City and Dynamos. Last week the club announced a nationwide player recruitment exercise which the officials chose to disguise as an exercise to recruit players for their new academy.
