CAPT, The Searchmont Polar Express Gathers Steam (SAULT STE. MARIE, November 15, 2013): Organizers of the first ever Searchmont Polar Express [the Coalition for Algoma Passenger Trains (CAPT), the Sault Ste. Marie Public Library (SSMPL) and Searchmont Resort] were astounded by the community interest in the December 21st event. captrains.ca/ 130 tickets were available for purchase and these quickly sold out by 9:30 a.m. the morning they went on sale. A second event date cannot be added this year, but due to such overwhelming interest, the organizers will be looking at how the concept can be expanded for next year to enable more people to experience such a unique holiday event. The White Pines on Stage Theatre Group has generously donated time and talent for an on-board performance of the Polar Express. Several sponsors have made contributions to make the first Searchmont Polar Express a special day. They include The Station Mall, The Kiwanis Club of Sault Ste. Marie, Local 2, Rogers Radio Group along with AK Graphix, Arts Council of Sault Ste. Marie & District, CN/Algoma Central Railway, Duke of Windsor Sport Shop, Family Video, Goodlife Fitness, Michael’s, Parkway Cleaners, Rome’s Independent Grocers, SK Group and the YMCA. About CAPT The Coalition for Algoma Passenger Trains (CAPT) is a not-for-profit organization comprised of individuals, businesses, First Nations, municipalities and other interests who recognize the significant economic, social, cultural, historical and environmental value of passenger rail servicing and interconnecting the people, businesses and communities of Northern Ontario’s Algoma District to each other, Ontario, Canada and the rest of the world. To accomplish this goal, CAPT has been working with local groups to organize events in the community that utilize the railway as a means of advertising and demonstrating its usefulness in the area.
