CAPTAINs CORNER!!!! This week we travel down the Pacific Highway to the Logan comp and have a quick chat with SCPoker skipper Matt Warner. SCPoker are taking on Furious MasterBatters in the Battle of the Spoon August 31. Theyve been around for a couple of years now with 32 games but have only been able to get 7 victories. Despite these the boys show up week in and week out. We wanted to have a chat with Matt to see why they enjoyed the LMS format.... 1. How long have you been in LMS? I have been playing LMS for nearly 2 years now. 2. What made you start playing LMS? Well I used to play poker at southern cross poker and the owner of that put a side together and I started filling in here and there. Hence the team name scpoker. Really enjoyed playing and now i have taken over as captain. 3. As the comp winds down this season who is the toughest team you had to face? Well this is a real tough question and what i can say is that every team is a tough team, but every team can be beaten and every team have their strengths and their weaknesses. So I will just say that every team is tough. 4. Who are the gun players on your team? Well i must say the most consistent bat in our side is Chad Bridge whos not only our wicket keeper but my opening bat partner. Chad has scores in high 40s to 50 99 weeks out of 100. Hes also been very tidy behind the stumps keeping up to most bowlers and i think he is in top ten in keepers in brisbane. But what most people dont know about Chad he does all this week in week out with a broken neck, he is a big part of our side. And as to everyone else in the side every one is a gun when someone else fails. They all turn up every week and put in 100% and i might get cranky with them sometimes but theyre all a good bunch of blokes and I look forward to playing with them every week. 5. Scpoker have mixed results on the board. What drives you guys on a weekly basis? Well i must say that it is the love of the game, some of us get cranky when we lose games we should have won but we all talk during the week about ways to get the other team out and rally together to try and do that the next week we have one plan a game and if that works we are happy. 6. Where do you see scpoker in 6 months? Well I see us up the top of the comp thats where i see us. 7. What is it about the LMS format that attacts you? Well with being a truck driver and working 60 plus hours every week it gives me time to spend with my family on the weekends and still have time to enjoy the sport i love. 8. We have noticed you have filled in for a few teams this season, who is your personal tip for Brisbane Championships? Well to be honest I have watched and played in a fair few games this season and my tip would be a team called the Woodies who play in the A grade logan comp. Most people would agree they have a great mix in their team with both youth and experience. I personally know most boys in the team and have seen them grow into some pretty good cricket players and on their day theyre a very hard team to bet. 9. Your boys are playing our very first Battle of the Spoons game against the currently winless Masterbatters on Brisbane Champs Grand Final Day August 31. Keelan, the captain of the side has almost guaranteed a win. How do you rate your chance? Well, my boys are as keen as mustard for this game and we have guys rushing back from injury to play this game. I played a fill in game this season with these boys and Im not greatly concerned although they do have one really good fielder and a not bad batter and one decent bowler. However, as I said earlier all teams are dangerous in this format and as was said by Paul Dawson if you get my self and Chad out early then theyre in with a chance. I think a win is on the cards for us. Wed like to win the toss and bowl and then set the pace for the run chase. 10. Anything else? Yeah i just like to thank my team mates for turning up week in and week out and for their support as we try to find the right balance in our side. We might have only won one game this season but most games we are right there in the thick of things. I see bigger and better things for scpoker next season. Thank for you time.
