CARIBBEAN CONTAINER INC. SENIOR CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP QUALIFIERS BEGINS THIS SUNDAY Caribbean Container Inc. (CCI) has partnered with the Guyana Chess Federation to sponsor this year’s Senior Chess Championship Qualifiers Tournament which comes on the heels of the just concluded National Junior Chess Championship. The CCI Senior Qualifiers tournament begins on Sunday November 10 at the Carifesta Sports Complex, giving chess players an opportunity to qualify for the 2013 National Senior Championship and challenge reigning senior champion Taffin Khan for the title. Registration begins at 9:00hrs and play starts one hour later. The tournament consists of seven rounds with Rounds One and Two scheduled for the first day. Round Three would be played on Wednesday November 13 at 17:30hrs, Rounds Four and Five are slated for Saturday November 16 and the final two rounds are scheduled for Sunday November 17. Each player would be allotted 90 minutes per game and the recording of moves would be compulsory. The top seven players at the conclusion of the tournament will move forward to participate in the 2013 National Senior Chess Championship scheduled for later this month. They would meet reigning champion Taffin Khan who would be defending his title. Registration fee is $800 for senior non-members of the Guyana Chess Federation while members would pay a reduced fee. Cash prizes and medals would be awarded to the top seven challengers. The sponsorship cheque of close to $60,000 was presented today by CCI Human Resources Manager Jimmy Lorrimer to President of the Guyana Chess Federation Shiv Nandalall at the company’s offices, Farm village, East Bank Demerara. The Guyana Chess Federation extends its gratitude to the company for its prompt approval of sponsoring the tournament.
