CARITAS TRAINS DISTRICT AGRICULTURAL OFFICERS UNDER MINISTRY OF AGRICULTURE CESSS* team of Caritas India conducted day long (Jan 14) training on quality management and production of organic manures for 20 agricultural officers from six districts of Nagpur division. The training was in response to the invitation from the Nagpur based Regional Centre for Organic Farming (RCOF) under the National Centre of Organic Farming, Department of Agriculture and Cooperation, Ministry of Agriculture. The center works for promotion of organic farming in Western Region states including Maharashtra, Goa, Gujrat and Andhra Pradesh through various training program. The CESSS team in consultation with RCOF Scientist Dr. AS Rajput designed the training sessions to give participants a strong background on production of organic manures, growth promoters and pest repellents; quality management of Sustainable Agriculture practices along with bringing awareness of organic products as tastier, healthier and nutritious. RCOF-Nagpur is planning to promote organic farming in the proposed ideal village of Yawali (Shahid) block in Amravati district and has invited CESSS to provide strategic support in the preparation of Sustainable Agricultural Practices (SAP) related inputs. During the training, the seemingly eager participants narrated their field experiences and the nature of impact the organic manures have on the crop quality. They showed their eagerness to learn all the preparations due to the low cost involvement and easy availability of raw materials from the farm. *Centre for Environmental Studies in Social Sector (CESSS) is a Caritas initiative for intensifying good linkages with stakeholders including concerned government departments in the field of Natural Resource Management.
