CAROL STREAM CERT Takes 1ST in 2014 Prairie State Challenge On Saturday, October 18th, Progtram Coordinator Officer Tom Eby and his 14-member CERT Squad from Carol Stream competed against Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT) came from Milton Township, Naperville, Chicago, South Lake County, Northbrook, Addison, Buffalo Grove, Highland Park, New Lenox and Glen Ellyn competed in the 5th Annual Prairie State CERT Challenge on the cmapus of the College of DuPage. Ground zero for the competition was the colleges Homeland Security Education Center at which 210 volunteers from those 11 CERT Squads rotated through 8 stations – about 30 minutes each – testing their skills in team building, medical treatment, transportation of injured people, searches, fires, disaster psychology & documentation. The competition began mid-morning and lasted until 4:30 pm when the final scores were tallied with the Village’s CERT Squad winning 1st Place ahead of the City of Chicago and the 9 other teams earning a total of 751 of a possible 800 points. For perspective purposes, the average total score of the other 10 teams combined was 653.3.
