They headed off at 8.45 am called to the Horse & Jockey for tea and scones and were at Birr in good time for the 12.30pm guided tour of the Castle. All were fascinated with the history, décor and furnishings of the Castle, which is still being lived in by the family. Afterwards they visited the Observatory, which included what was the largest telescope in the worlds for 70 years. The museum housed a wide range of sophisticated scientific equipment that was used to study astronomy over 100 years ago. It was a most interesting and informative outing to a part of the country not travelled before by most of the group. On Friday five members of the Meitheal Mara Mens Shed group came to visit the Carrigaline Mens Shed. They were given a tour of the facilities and asked many pertinent questions over a cup of tea.
