CASE OF SCIATICA [PROLAPSE INTERVERTEBRAL DISCS] [Case is presented by Dr. Samadhan Ghule. Homeopathdrslg@gmail ] Old age lady of 58 consulted me for severe pain of sciatica; actually some days ago she was admitted in hospital for her complaints of sciatica. As usual allopathic doctors tried their conservative treatments like traction, SWD, analgesic and anti-inflammatory medicines etc. without significant improvement so why they came to conclusion of surgery of spine but in between patient’s relative girl who is one of my students suggested them to consult me before going to the surgery. Patient was already suffering from diabetes mellitus and mild hypertension on irregular allopathic treatment. She was suffering from severe pain in right sided lumbar region of back since 3 month; it is impossible for her to turn on side in bed due to pain. Throbbing(pulsating) pain. Pains are aggravated by sitting and rising from bed. Pain had onset after heavy weight lifting. Investigation reports: . MRI [Lumbar spine]—Diffuse lumbar vertebral osteophytic degenerative changes are seen. Posterior osteophytic changes and diffuse posterior disc bulge is noted at L3-L4 and L4-L5 level causing anterior sac indentation and minimal narrowing of both neural foramina. . Antinuclear antibody- positive. . USG of abdomen: mild hepatomegaly with fatty changes in liver. . BSL (F) - 112mg% with allopathic antidiabetic. Mind: Anxiety about discords in family. Grief. Desire to leave home with suicidal thoughts. Irritable and fastidious. Revengeful. • Past history: . Bleeding piles operated 4 years ago. . Appendectomy 7 years ago. . She had had metrorrhagia and dysmenorrheal which had amelioration by menstrual flow in her past; now menopause since 16 years. • Family history: Father was asthamatic. • Patient was hot and thirsty. • Associated symptom: burning of soles. Summer aggravation. Desire loose clothing. Wet weather amelioration. • Discussion: Natrium sulph is the 1st grade medicine for suicidal thoughts while Lachesis and Thuja are given in common types but wet weather amelioration rule out the Natrium sulph and Thuja. Lycopodium and Lachesis are leading hot medicines indicated for right sided sciatica, interestingly though Lachesis is in general left sided medicine. Complaints during menopause are more in favor of Lachesis. Patient’s past history of metrorrhagia and bleeding piles also indicate the Hemorrhagic diathesis of Lachesis. So finally Lachesis was preferred as the remedy of the patient. Rx Lachesis 200 stat. All previous allopathic medicines stopped. Follow up after one month: Back-pain of lumbar region relieved significantly, now she can easily turn in bed, also good control on Diabetes mellitus. Patient better. Sciatica was almost cured but I asked for next follow ups for further management of diabetes mellitus.
