CASPER, Wyo. (June 17, 2014) – With nearly 10 hours of non-stop College National Finals Rodeo (CNFR) action in the Casper Events Center on Tuesday it was no surprise to see some high scores and fast times. Some of the most exciting action came in the second round of tie-down roping held during Tuesday’s slack competition. where the top eight places were less than one second apart. There was a tie for first place between Kit Pettigrew from Mesalands Community College and Marty Yates from Hill College. Both managed to rope and tie their calves in eight seconds flat. Third place was a half-second slower at 8.5 seconds. That time belongs to Caleb Bullock from Panhandle State University. A mere 10th of a second separated Chant DeForest from Lassen Community College who finished fourth with 8.6. Fifth place was a tie between Montana State University’s Austin Barstow and Tarleton State University’s Russell Ilse who each stopped the clock in 8.7. The final spot for points was again a tie. Clayton Collmorgen, Angelina College and Clark Adcock, University of Tennesse – Martin, each had an 8.8 second run. Feather River College’s Grant Denny won the second round of bareback riding Tuesday morning s well with an 81.5. Denny had a 72.5 point ride in the first round and still has a third horse to get on. If he continues he could potentially be the first contestant to win a national title for Feather River who has had a rodeo program for less than 10 years. Callahan Crossley from Blue Mountain Community College is the youngest of three sisters to compete here. Her oldest sister Jordan Crossley tied for the all-around title here in 2008. Jade Crossley was the reserve champion in the breakaway roping just last year. Callahan has the second fastest time in the third round with a 13.96-second run. Combined with her two previous times, she now leads the overall standings with 42.74 seconds. Bailee Snow from Northeastern Oklahoma A&M leads the third round with a 13.93 second run. Odessa College contestants are dominating the bull riding. Ty Wallace won the first round with an 86 point ride and Cody Heffernan finished second with an 81. Heffernan made his third appearance on Tuesday night and is also leading the third round with an 84.
