CASTING NOTICE: NYU Grad Film Student Abbesi Akhamie , is casting for the lead roles in her 2nd Year Pre-Thesis Film, “Wade in the Water.” It tells the story of a young son who is forever changed after struggling to secure the attention of his mother who has been romanced by a handsome young preacher. Jamal, wise before his years, reacts negatively to the blossoming relationship between his mother Tanya and her religious boyfriend Pastor. He retaliates against Pastor in his longing to regain a fading relationship with his mother. During an evening church service Jamal is coerced by Pastor into baptism, forcing Jamal to make a decision that will change his relationship with his mother. JAMAL / MALE / 7-12 African-American/Black descent/Latino. Young boy acts out and behaves badly. He seeks the attention of his mother. No acting experience required. Natural acting talent. Preferred New York native or familiar with urban youth lingo. TANYA / FEMALE / 35 African-American/Black descent/Latino. Single mother who has fallen deeply for a young handsome preacher—Pastor. She loves her son and is in denial about his bed behavior in relation to Pastor. PASTOR / MALE / LATE 20S African-American/Black descent/Latino. Handsome and dominant. He likes Tanya but views her son, Jamal, as a nuisance. He uses biblical doctrine to justify his actions which are contradictory.
