CAT AND GOAT... A ROMANCE! Call me a romantic old fool, but I want to tell you about the worlds greatest love story! Yesterday, as we were filming on the Mary Mother of God pilgrim trail in Solymar, Hungary, for my version of Tavaszi zsel (The spring wind blows upon the water)... a Hungarian folk-song... we came across a farm just outside the village. I know and love this farm already, from previous visits. It seems to have no crops or dairy cattle, just horses, goats, cats, chickens, a peacock and some rabbits. There is a wizened old guy with mahogany skin and Methusaleh silver hair who seems to be in charge, with a younger guy who may have learning difficulties. It was a blazing hot, blue, dusty day out in the fields near the old castle ruin. We ambled around the farmyard... welcomed gruffly! The horses came for some handfuls of long grass, the cats for a stroke, and the goats to nibble at my t-shirt. By the several tumble-down structures was an old blue jeep. Methusaleh sat inside, stroking Ginger Tom, and goats peered into the car window. Then the ginger cat came to look at us, waiting for more stroking in the sun. Purring contentedly, he stretched and washed himself, taking up the cello position that cats do when they wash. Old goat stood up to the bonnet of the jeep as Ginger Tom performed the cello, smiled at him, and licked him several times. The cat loved it! They clearly are deeply in love... a happily married couple! The farm seems to exist for the nature and the animals only, as far as I can see. The fields are full of clover. That farm seems a perfect example of community in motion... goat loves cat, cat loves horse, horse loves dog and dog loves everybody! The German shepherd loves nothing better than to provoke old goat into chasing games, and ropy-poly dog wriggles in the dust, basking in the sun at every opportunity. Mother cat leads her kittens down to the sunniest spot inside the old, broken, dry metal water drum... the kittens weaving in and out of the horses legs. This seems to me to be spiritual community... sprit, nature and animal community. All these animals are Christian mystics, well versed in Rudolf Steiner, except black horse whos Jewish. Possibly one of the rabbits is a pagan animist, and the rooster is Buddhist now, but generally speaking they follow Steiner, these animals. They teach the two caretakers about Love, and its really rubbing off on them. How lucky I felt to be present at Cat and Goats wedding anniversary. They allowed me to immortalise that moment on film, and to use it in a forthcoming video to a new song called All the tired horses... now not only a song, but an epic romance.
