CAT LEFT FOR DEAD - When I discovered Sapphire in the sanctuary yard just before Christmas, I thought at first that she was a grey towel. It was pouring with rain and she was lying on the floor unmoving She looked like a wet rag, I even bent to pick her up thinking it was rubbish that had been left on the floor. It was only when I touched her that I realised this was a cat and there was still a spark of life. She was emaciated, chilled and limp without the strength to move. We’ll never know how she made it to us but it was lucky for her that she did. Her head hung down as we dried her, rubbing her briskly to get the circulation going and then put her on a heated pad while we mixed some recovery milk. We spooned the warm milk down and soon she was lapping it up. This cat was skin and bone and starving. We thought she was a kitten but later on, when she went to the vet for a check up, he said she was a year old. We named her Sapphire because she is a lovely blue colour (with white legs). It seems as though she has been living wild a long time as she is so tiny. Because she is young she has made a good recovery. Sapphire is a friendly girl, lovely with people and other cats too. When a cat called Leo came in, she palled up with him and they became inseparable. It was good that she had found a friend. There is a happy ending to this story which will become apparent when you hear about Leo – another fabulous cat who was dumped here. Whether cats live or die is all down to fate. If she’d crawled under a bush and we hadn’t noticed her would have meant a sad ending. Who could have left such a sweet little cat out to starve on her own?
