CAT ON A MOTORCYCLE WEDNESDAY #1 The third and fourth Wednesdays in September are, as you will all know, Cat on a Motorcycle Day. Next week we will bring you the famous duo of Max Corkill and Rastus, but, to celebrate Cat on a Motorcycle Day #1, here’s a photo of Karl Mitchell and Mitten. In the 1980s, Karl taught his pet cat to ride on his bike with him. As you do. He was spotted out with Mitten by Ray Berwick, an animal trainer who was so impressed that he offered to employ him (Karl had engineered the meeting, but the rouse worked). Karl turned out to be a natural and eventually worked his way up to training almost anything, from antelope to zebras, but his real passion was, and remains, African big cats and tigers from India. He now runs a private shelter for big cats in Pahrump, Nevada, and his long range goal is to return some of his Nevada-born tigers to India. Alas, he doesn’t appear to have trained any of them to ride motorcycles. Mitten went on to appear in several films and the TV series Fantasy island.
