CAUSES OF BREAST CANCER AND HOW TO AVOID IT. cancer of the breast is the most common form of cancer in woman. about one (1) out of 10 ghanaian woman has breast cancer at some time in her life. every year, about 200 woman in this country die of breast cancer. the risk is higher for woman whose mother,sister, or grandmother had breast canccr (family history) and there are three (3) kinds of breast lumps; cysts (fluidfilled sac called fibrocystic disease or cystic mastitis disease) fibroadenomas, and malignant tumors. the important thing to realize is that 80% of breast lumps are cysts or fibro adenomas and are benign that is not dangerous. therefore, if you find a lump in yuur breast, the chances are fairly good that it is not manlignant : of course you cannot be sure of this until a doctor has performed a biopsy. one you have discovered a lump you should see a doctor immediately. one of several diagnostic procedures may than be carried out. one is needle aspiration in which a fine needle is inserted in to the breast: if the lump is a cyst, the fluid in the cyst will be drained out. if the lump disappears after this procedure,then it was cyst the cyst is gone and there is no need for further concern. if the lump remains, it must be either a fibro adenoma or a malignant tumor. other procedure can than be used to determine wherther it is malignant.
