CAUTION - Rant of Love Ahead: There have not been any cases of Ebola diagnosed in the United States (only the two workers we brought home to treat) and yet, for the last two weeks it is all weve heard about from the national media. Stingers, promos, special guests, vague teases and fear mongering statistical presentations bombard our senses with every flip through the 24-hr news ringer. Meanwhile 1,600 Americans die from cancer every single day. We sensationalize and dramatize a very unrealistic and hypothetical national pandemic while millions of American lives are touched by cancer each year and we barely bat an eye as a nation. Make no mistake, national news is driven by ratings and fear makes money, the only money in cancer is in protecting the profiteering of big pharmaceutical and insurance companies. We need to get our priorities straight nation and put an emphasis on building a public outrage which will force our representatives to incentivize research, prevention and education. God willing, there is a cure to be found! Let us turn our hearts and our headlines to where they are truly needed. (Im speaking in terms of our domestically focused news of course - we obviously also have much more serious international news than Ebola as well).
