CAVE (Campaign against Crime and Violent Extremism): Mufti Aasim - TopicsExpress

CAVE (Campaign against Crime and Violent Extremism): Mufti Aasim Rashid, a local prominent Islamic scholar and religious spokesperson of BCMA (British Columbia Muslim Association), has launched a campaign in collaboration with the law enforcement (RCMP) and local politicians, against crime and violent extremism. Part of the campaign is to have conferences at different institutes, i.e. universities, libraries, high schools, all over B.C and even across Canada. Conference: Conference is divided into three segments. First segment, which is the main segment, deals with Islamic perspective on extremism and radicalization. It also deals with some essentials of Islam i.e. Jihad. This segment aims to demystify some misconceptions about Islam, and shed a light on some of the controversial issues regarding Islam in light of Islamic sources. Second segment deals with law enforcement’s role in dealing with terrorism, radicalization, and the preventative measures they take on tackling such issues. Third segment deals with politicians’ role in dealing with such issues: what role they are playing, what kind of obstacles they face, etc. Notes: - Even though our first main conference will be at Kwantlen on Feb 14th, the first conference will be held on Jan 25th at Surrey Central Public Library. Another conference at Vancouver public library will be held on Feb 24th. Conferences at these public libraries will on deal with the Islamic segment. - Booking of conference rooms at Douglas, SFU, and UBC are under process. We hope to have all these conferences between Feb and March. - There will be a press conference announcing the launch of this campaign this Monday in the afternoon (1:00 pm - tentative). For any queries/concerns, please, feel free to message me on my Facebook.
