CBN4NEWS: Demolition of Houses Underway May 30, 2014 Two squatter houses are being demolished today in the Canefield East area. Squatters of the area were given an eviction notice and strong warning earlier this month, by Honourable Reginald Austrie, Minister for Lands and Housing. “The government is very serious, and I want to reiterate that if by the 2nd of May, which is Friday, the persons who have illegally occupied Government lands do not vacate those lands, the government will use the powers in the law to ensure that these people vacate Government property,” Austrie warned on a radio station on Thursday 1st May. Government has kept its word and about three to four squatters have been summoned to court since announcement was made. One of the individuals whose house is being demolished today is currently in Guadeloupe.
