CCISD teachers must stand strong to protect our profession and - TopicsExpress

CCISD teachers must stand strong to protect our profession and successfully advocate for students. Teacher morale in CCISD may be at an all-time low. Depriving teachers of basic rights and pushing top-down bureaucratic mandates are not viable solutions to low test scores in some schools. Educators facing the challenges associated with inner-city, urban poverty will not be bullied and will not be blamed for lower test scores--and will not be labeled as inferior. Teachers working in IR (Improvement Required) schools, as determined by high stakes testing results and TEA, do not lose their rights. CCAFT will work earnestly with the administration to evaluate fair written expectations and paper work demands. Furthermore, we will not allow any teacher to lose their 450 minutes of personal planning time every two weeks (ten days) as prescribed by state law. Teachers are not afraid of working hard. We are willing to work in new and innovative ways, but the district must do the work with us--not to us. It is time for a fair assessment of the total paper work load being demanded of teachers, and individual planning time must be respected. CCAFT will work in good faith with the Superintendent and School Board to do what is right for kids and fair for employees. Please stay posted and attentive as all educators, AFT and non-AFT must stand together at this time.
