CCSPSC Receives Grant Supporting Free Tax Services Ravenna – Free tax filing assistance through The Ohio Benefit Bank™ will once again be available at Catholic Charities Serving Portage and Stark Counties (CCSPSC). Thanks to a grant from the Ohio Association of Foodbanks, home of The Ohio Benefit Bank, CCSPSC will be able to expand tax filing services for the 2013-2014 tax season. “Free tax filing assistance through our agency and other Ohio Benefit Bank sites provides a favorable alternative to our clients, the overwhelming majority of whom are below the poverty line,” explains George Garchar, Executive Director for CCSPSC. “The fees associated with for-profit tax preparation services can be substantial for families struggling to make ends meet. A healthy tax return, in some cases, can lift marginal families out of poverty and into complete self-sufficiency,” Garchar adds. Residents interested in making an appointment to have their taxes filed or complete other benefit applications through the OBB can call CCSPSC’s Ravenna Office in Portage County, 330-297-7745, or its Canton Office in Stark County, 330-491-0896. Appointments are available Monday through Friday from 9:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. or other times by appointments. Catholic Charities will be holding a tax clinic on Saturday, February 8 from 9:00 AM until 2:00 PM, appointments will be necessary. Community members interested in volunteering as OBB counselors are welcome to call Susan Morris at 330-297-7745 or Mary Ann Mills, Community Organizer at 330-777-1051 from 8 AM to 4 PM.
