CDC-PCC Weekly Newsletter - Week of 9/9 Dear CDC Families and Friends, We are thankful that the weather has cooled down a bit this week. It is still warm enough for a lot of water play, so we have made arrangements with the Grounds Department to turn on the sprinklers for us this Friday, 9/13, at 10:00 AM. The preschoolers will walk across the parking lot at about 9:50 AM and return around 10:30 AM. Your children are welcome to wear bathing suits to school and should already have sunscreen applied. A police escort will assist us in walking back and forth across the parking lot because the children love it and it and our Campus Police are so good to us! Pod en Fuego will stay on site and enjoy some special water play activities on the preschool playground. Please take note of the Classroom Parent & Family Meetings that are happening this week and next. This is an opportunity for you to learn about your child’s classroom daily schedule, curriculum and plans for the next few months, as well as an opportunity to meet other CDC parents. You will receive a Parent Hour for attending. Parent/family conferences will be held in November and our teaching staff is working diligently on getting to know your child and conducting observations that will assist them in completing a Desired Results Developmental Profile assessment. Every teacher conducts TWO of these per school year on your child. The first is completed after 60 days of enrollment and the second is completed after 6 months. The results of the second assessment will be shared with you at your spring conference. I will be presenting a FREE WORKSHOP for CDC parents, families & ECE students on an introduction for families to California’s Desired Results System on Friday, 9/27, here at CDC-PCC. I will offer this workshop twice on 9/27, from 8:00 - 8:45 AM OR 4:00 – 4:45 PM. lbcc.edu/ChildrenCenter/documents/CDC%20Parent%20Wokshop-DRDP.pdf Topics I will address include the following: • Familiarizing yourself with the Desired Results System • Methods that teachers use to assess children • Use of technology • Importance of observations • What you can do at home • Learning how to ask open-ended questions A sign-up sheet is posted in the CDC lobby and you will receive a Parent Hour for attending. I am working with a T-shirt vendor to order new spirit wear for the CDC’s! Over the summer we held a contest to select a quote for the back of our t-shirts and this quote by Einstein won by a landslide: “Play is the highest form of research.” We hope to start the pre-orders next week! We do still have some very small and very large CDC t-shirts and sweatshirts with our old logo. See me if you are interested…I’m having a clearance sale and will give you a really good deal! Our Licensing Analyst from Community Care Licensing stopped by yesterday for an unannounced visit. She reviewed a random selection of children’s and staff files, along with our Parent & Family Handbook. I gave her a tour of the classrooms and she checked to make sure that all detergents and cleaning products were labeled and stored properly and allergy lists posted. Once again, we received an excellent evaluation along with many compliments. As she was leaving she thanked me and said, “I love coming to schools like this!” Three cheers for our amazing team at the CDC! Have a fantastic rest of the week! Sincerely, Stacey P.S.
