CDC Warns of Dire Political repercussions if Mary Broh’s Reappointment is not immediately withdrawn… Monrovia-Liberia (13 July 2013): The National Executive Committee of the Congress for Democratic Change is regrettably flustered by the recent decision of Mrs. Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf to reappoint resigned City Mayor, Mary Broh and urged the President to rescind the decision consistent with mounting public outcry and the need to redeem the ruined image of the City Corporation. The leadership of the CDC struggles to fathom the motivating factor behind the reappointment of Madam Broh, who was in recent times suspended by the same President, and later resigned as Acting Mayor when she chose to disrupt the detention of Madam Grace Kpaan at the Monrovia Central Prisons. The Congress for Democratic Change recollects Madam Broh’s ruthless assault on the combined integrity of the Legislative and Executive branches of government through her gang-related disruption of public/legal order; and believes her reappointment to the same position already dishonored by a period of incessant reckless legal and public viciousness, is reprehensible. Additionally, the President’s reappointment is even complicated further and appears to be cloaked in absolute mockery of the governing standards, in recall of a pending Supreme Court case ensued at the behest of both, Madam Broh and former Superintendent Kpaan. Worst still, the CDC fears the return of Madam Broh will maximally aggravate public disorder and mayhem on the peaceful residents of the municipality, some of which were brutalized, shelters lawlessly destroyed, and pregnant women nonetheless subjected to wanton treatment as the not-so-lucky ones were made to ‘Pumped-tyre’ in accordance with the dehumanizing rhythm of the Broh cleanup plan. In continuance, the mighty party believes there can be no justification for the return of Madam Broh, who once served as Acting Mayor continually until her self-disgracing resignation. Under the circumstances, the CDC also rejects as baseless statements by Cllr. Henry Reeds Cooper, during budget hearings “That he was unable to carry out the work of Mayor and that Madam Broh should be brought back”; and those of President Sirleaf who attempts to rationalize the appointment by conceding that “Her decision to reappoint Madam Broh is owing to the fact that the City of Monrovia has turned dirty since her resignation”. Finally, the Congress for Democratic Change remains suspicious of the President’s intents, aware that the post-Monrovia City Corporation may have been deliberately slowed-down to allow for filth-filled streets, thereby artificially creating the indispensability of Madam Broh on a job that many competent Liberians may easily perform. In conclusion, Liberia’s national liberation movement, the mighty Congress for Democratic Change, concurs with the Legislature that Madam Broh remains a ‘Non-governmental material’ and therefore the President is cautioned that her action seeks to undermine the highly-valued efforts of reconciliation and peace, currently being inspired by Amb George M. Weah and other nationalists. Consequently, the CDC warns of dire and pending political consequences for change, especially judging from the prevalence of widespread corruption and nepotism paralyzing the national economy, and hope the President withdraws the reappointment in a reasonable time. This statement is released by the authority of the National Executive Committee of the CDC
