CDHR Condemns Police Arrest of Comrade NADECO in Offa The Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR) strongly condemned the Kwara State Police Command for its alleged connivance with the Federal Polytechnic Offa School Authority to keep Comrade, Taiwo Tayo Babalola aka (NADECO) out of circulation for querying the students’ union government on how the Students’ Union Week was handled. Comrade NADECO, a former CDHR Federal Poly Offa Unit Coordinator is known for his intellectual approach to human rights and governance issues. Comrade Taiwo Otitolaye, national vice-president of CDHR in a statement today said “before his abduction by the police in Offa, he had lodged a formal complain to the State Security Service (SSS) in Offa Local Government about plan by some students to kidnap him. It was similar report he went to the CIB police station to make when the police arrested him. He has been detained for seventy-two hours, tortured and forced to sign a statement against his will. Presently, he has been moved from Offa police station to the state headquarters in Ilorin”. Otitolaye added that “The police in Nigeria over decades have failed to learn to imbibe and operate the culture of civility. Instead of promoting the culture of peace, protection of citizenry, it is aiding and abetting the school authority and opposing student camp to install surrogates as student leaders. “The CDHR, as an organization is holding the Inspector general of Police Responsible for her detained Comrade. We demand the immediate and unconditional release of Comrade Taiwo Babalola”,the statement said.
