CEC Fakhruddin G Ebrahim resigns ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), Fakhruddin G Ebrahim has tendered his resignation. The resignation has been sent to the presidency for approval. "In my humble opinion, the newly elected members of Parliament should have the opportunity to forge new consensus and choose a new Chief Election Commissioner. This will allow the new Chief Election Commissioner sufficient time and opportunity to prepare and lead the Election Commission for the general elections 2018," Ebrahim wrote in his resignation. Ebrahim a former Supreme Court judge was appointed as the CEC on 23 July 2012 by President Zardari after being approved by a parliamentary panel. The May 11, 2013 general elections and the presidential election were held during his tenure.
