CED alumna, Dr. Cheryl Holcomb-McCoy, who is the Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs at Johns Hopkins University, was one of 130 national experts invited by the Obamas to a summit on school counselors efforts around college readiness and college access, held Monday at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Cheryl wrote: Yesterday was an exciting day for me and our entire profession. I was one of the 130 experts (including people from non-profits/foundations, education industry, district-level persons, state dept. personnel, higher education officials, etc.). Also, I was 1 of 3 plenary speakers and my talk was focused on college counseling tools and resources for school counselors. It has been an honor to work with the First Lady’s staff and the entire Reach Higher Initiative to highlight the important work of school counselors in the context of providing equitable college and career opportunities for all students. This is an exciting time for those invested in school counselor training and research.
