CELEBRATION CORK CAMOGIE Cork Camogie Celebrated a hugely successful season on the playing fields when close on four hundred people attended the boards Gala Celebration night in the Rochestown Park Hotel recently. Amongst the guests in attendance were Lord Mayor Cllr. Mary Shields, President of the Camogie Association Aileen Lawlor, Munster Council chairman James Moynihan, Tracey Kennedy PRO Cork GAA, Jim and Niamh Barry and their team from Barry’s Group Mallow sponsors of the county teams, John Mc Hale and Linda Mellerick Evening Echo, Finbarr Mc Carthy 96/103fm and captains and players of all the winning Cork teams. Medals were presented to the victorious teams whilst the county board made presentations to the managements of the various teams. Also launched on the night was a Calendar celebrating a hugely successful year which is depicting in pictures and this was formally launched by President of the Camogie Association Aileen Lawlor who paid tribute to Cork on their huge success on the playing fields . Pride of place are pictures the All Ireland winning Cork Senior Team who also captured the Munster Senior championship in an unforgettable year. The Division 2 National league winning side the Munster Intermediate, Minor and Junior champions plus the Under 15 team who won the All Ireland regional title are also pictures. The counties Under 16 A and B team are there as well as the club who hit the headlines and took championship titles during the year, plus o host of pictures of award winners, championship day and the joy of success are all captured superbly. Team pictures together with the player of the match and captains are all on display in what is a fantastic publication, and Aileen commented; “ I am thrilled to be here tonight to celebrate with Cork on such a wonderful occasion the glittering array of silverware speaks volumes for the hard work being put in by cork at all levels. Your county board officials , mentors and players have enjoyed a wonderful season but this didn’t happen easily , they have all made huge sacrifices to attain the success and tonight I say well done to Cork your should be hugely proud of your selves. In launching the calendar formally Aileen urged everybody to get behind the venture and get it sold; “In what has been a busy year your county board still have had time to get this wonderful calendar ready and published, it tells the story of the great year your county has had and I am sure the rebel county will row in behind you and buy this and help you with this fund raising venture which is in aid of your development in Castle Road. This calendar is a must for every body in Cork and all camogie players and their families should make sure to get one and show their support for your superb teams both at county and club level “ The funds generated from the sale of the calendar are to help the on going development at Castle Road and at just €10 each it is hoped all camogie players, followers and families will row in and purchase these.
