CELEBRATION OF WORLD HERITAGE WEEK (19 - 25 NOVEMBER 2014) ARCHAEOLOGICAL SURVEY OF INDIA AURANGABAD CIRCLE, BIBI-KA-MAQBARA The UNESCO observes World Heritage Day (18th April) and the ASI, in addition also observes World Heritage Week from 19th -25th November each year. This week long celebrations are aimed at spreading the message of cultural awareness as well as cleanliness. The ASI will also carry out Swachchha Bharat Swatchchha Samrak Campaign on its protected monuments by involving schools children and public. In India, at present there are 23 Cultural Properties (Ajanta Caves, Ellora Caves, Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, Group of Monuments at Fatehpur Sikri, Great Living Chola Temples, Group of Monuments at Mahabalipuram, Group of Monuments at Pattadakal, Churches and Convents, Goa; Group of Monuments at Hampi, Khajuraho group of Monuments, Elephanta Caves, Buddhist Monument at Sanchi, Mahabodhi temple complex at Bodh Gaya, Sun Temple at Konarak, Humayuns Tomb, Qutb Minar and its Monument, Red Fort in Delhi, Rock Shelters of Bhimbetka, Champaner and Pavagadh Archaeological Park and JantarMantar, Jaipur); 5 Natural Properties (Kaziranga National Park, Manas Wildlife Sanctuary, Keoladeo National Park, Sundarbans National Park and Nandadevi National Park) and 2 Mixed Properties (Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, Mumbai and Mountain Railways of India comprising of Darjeeling and Nilgiris). The Aurangabad Circle, ASI, which has its jurisdiction in the Marathwada, Khandesh and parts of western of Maharashtra, has under its control two World Heritage Properties, namely, Ajanta and Ellora Caves. The Aurangabad Circle has requested various local schools and colleges to actively participate in the week long function and to involve their students, so that the message of necessity to preserve our cultural heritage reaches the younger generation in a greater way. The Aurangabad Circle organized Swachchha Smarak Swatchchha Bharat campaign at Bibi- ka- Maqbara jointly with Aurangabad Photography Lovers Club on 23rd November 2014. The members and public in general were invited to premises of Bibi -ka- Maqbara at 7.00 AM, which was responded well by the 78 members of the club. A cleanliness drive was taken up inside Bibi-ka-Maqbara from 7.00 AM to 10.00 AM. The members collected garbage, poly-bags, wrappers thrown by the visitors was collected by the members. The members also visited a photo exhibition to see range of lithographs produced in 1802, glass neagative between 1921 to 1952 and latest pictures of Ajanta, Ellora, Daulatabad and other monuments of national importance within jurisdiction of Aurangabad Circle. To make this event success Sh. Tejas Garge, Assistant Archaeologist, Sh. Shaikh Mujibur Raheman, Conservation Assistant, from Archaeological survey of India under guidance of Sh. Prakash Deshmukh, Archaeological Engineer and Sh. Tashkand Alone and Sh. Saket Bhand, Sh. Yogesh Tupe, Pradip Shinde, Ashish Gadekar, Dinesh Tambat, Vinay Mahajan, Deepak Shetty, Pravin Birajdar, Payal Shelar, Ravi Jehurkar and Pranav Samag along with other 78 volunteers put their efforts together.
