CELTIC´S Under-19 squad are just 24 hours away from travelling to Milan for the opening fixture of the inaugural UEFA Youth League and as the excitement builds, we continue our look at the squad which will take to the Euro stage. On Friday the official Celtic website focused on the defence which will be looking to keep out AC Milan´s stars of the future but today our attentions turn to the midfield line. And with a mix of defensive qualities and attacking threat, the young Hoops have a strong group holding together the middle third. MIDFIELDERS Luke Donnelly Donnelly joined Celtic at the age of eight and plays in midfield, but can also sit off the striker which he did in the U20 game against St Johnstone earlier this month. He played in the Bassvelde tournament which Celtic finished third in, won the Galway Cup in 2012 and played in the 2012 and 2013 Glasgow Cup finals. He also represents Scotland at U17 level. Liam Henderson Henderson joined Celtic from Hearts in 2008 and won the Galway Cup in 2012 and played in the Glasgow Cup final both last season and the year before. The central midfielder is a Scottish internationalist, and captains the U17 side. He was included in the first-team squad for the pre-season trip to Germany this summer and impressed so much he was kept out a week longer than first planned. Lewis Kidd Central midfielder, Kidd, had an excellent campaign last season, playing alongside former Motherwell team-mate, Jamie Lindsay. He did well to slot in and keep up the good work Callum McGregor and Jackson Irvine did in that area before him and was rewarded with regular involvement at U19 level for Scotland. Jamie Lindsay Lindsay began his career at Motherwell, but it wasn’t long before Celtic secured his services and helped him develop through their ranks. The midfielder was a regular in the U20s last season, helping them secure the double for the fourth consecutive year. He also has a tendency to strike long-range shots as well. Connor McManus McManus is a versatile youngster who is comfortable in both midfield and at the back. He joined Celtic in 2005 and is a current Scotland international youth player. McManus slots into central midfield alongside Liam Henderson and his performances at U17 level has seen him not only feature in more U20 games but also train with the Development Squad at Lennoxtown. Joe Thomson Midfield prospect, Joe Thomson, has been with Celtic since the summer of 2009 when he signed from Rangers. He began to work his way into John Kennedy and Stevie Frail´s U20 plans last season, but at 16-years-old he can still play in the Glasgow Cup, and was a stand out in the 2-1 win against Rangers last week.
