“CFA Robbery Case” The Gambia #REFJourneyforJustice #HassanBJallow #namon #nalen The CFA robbery case was a significant prosecution and acquittal, by a jury, of four persons charged with robbery involving the sum of some CFA ($$$$ francs), property of the GCDB which was being transported to Yundum airport for shipment to their foreign accounts. Although the accused were acquitted by a jury, the money—as much of it as could be found—was returned to the lawful owners. The court concluded that the evidence established beyond a reasonable doubt that the first accused had indeed helped himself to some of the money that he had recovered in the course of the police investigations. If so, 1) how much had the first accused taken from the box? The amount in the box originally had not been counted. So that while it was possible to tell what it contained upon arrival at the Police Headquarters in Banjul, in the absence of information as to how much was in it at the time the accused took possession of the carton, it was impossible to tell how much he had stolen. Reference: The documents which had been prepared by the bank to accompany the shipment showed clearly that the denominations of currency in the shipment ranged from 500, 1000, 5000 to 10,000 CFA notes. 2) So if you where the judge how would you judge this case in order prosecute the first accuse? #Commercial and Development Bank (GCDB)
