CHALLENGE GRANT I am thrilled to announce that Access to Independence recently received a Challenge Grant from the Gary and Mary West Foundation. The foundation will match every $100. or more raised from New Donors during this campaign (which runs through August 30, 2014) up to $25,000; Once successful with this, the West foundation will match that with an additional $25,000! That means there is a potential for a total of $50,000. We will utilize this matching opportunity to develop new donors. We will reach existing community partners—who have not yet become donors—as well as others in our community who are not yet familiar with us in an effort to engage them as new donors. An incentive to donate is the possibility of their donation being worth double. Any revenue generated through this appeal will be used to provide seniors with disabilities with assistance that will increase their independence and quality of life by providing much-needed modifications, assistive technology or other needs to increase the independence and quality of life of seniors with disabilities. The need for this project is threefold: expand our donor database; increase the revenue sources of Access to Independence, and; provide enhanced services to more seniors with disabilities throughout San Diego County. The details of this grant are: 1. For commitments that will be paid out after the close of the Challenge period (after 8/31/14), the deadline for receiving payment is December 31, 2014. This also pertains to multi-year commitments; for example if a donor pledges a total of $10K ($5K in 2014 and $5K in 2015), the 2014 payment should be received by 12/31/14. 2. We also have the opportunity to re-engage previous donors who have been inactive for 3 or more years. Hopefully that will help us re-capture potential donors who are still ‘warm’ to the organization, so to speak. 3. The West Foundation also requires that there is full engagement and support from the Board; so for Board members who are not donors or who are willing to increase their level of commitment, the foundation will count that toward the match.
