CHALLENGING MY FAITH JESUS CHRIST Continues Why is it that the Muslims do not believe that Jesus was killed? Just like you were disappointed that the Son of God died in the hands of men – it will be out of sense to say that the Son of God is humiliated on the Cross by men. You know that the most shameful death one could go through among the Jews was the death on a Cross. So, the Muslim could not conceive Jesus so highly favored by God and the greatest prophet to die such death even though they do not believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. Why? Because the Muslims like us believe that God is a Spirit, so how can a Spirit who cannot have a wife have a son? Yet, they believe strongly in the miraculous birth of Jesus Christ and they also believe that he is coming back to judge the world. Thank you Sr. I don’t know if you have read this passage before? Which is that? Rose opened her bible and read this out from Ez. 28: 1-10 This is what the Sovereign LORD says: `In the pride of your heart you say, I am a god; I sit on the throne of a god in the heart of the seas. But you are a man and not a god, though you think you are as wise as a god. Are you wiser than Daniel? Is no secret hidden from you? By your wisdom and understanding you have gained wealth for yourself and amassed gold and silver in your treasuries. By your great skill in trading you have increased your wealth, and because of your wealth your heart has grown proud. `Therefore this is what the overeign LORD says: `Because you think you are wise, as wise as a god, I am going to bring foreigners against you, the most ruthless of nations; they will draw their swords against your beauty and wisdom and pierce your shining splendor. They will bring you down to the pit, and you will die a violent death in the heart of the seas. Will you then say, I am a god, in the presence of those who kill you? You will be but a man, not a god, in the hands of those who slay you. You will die the death of the uncircumcised at the hands of foreigners. I have read it before; what is the problem? What can you say about this in relation to Jesus claiming to be God or even Son of God and going through such a shameful death? The first thing you have to know is that the passage is not talking about Jesus Christ – it is a special message for the King of Tyre. Some traditions say that it is about the son of the Morning Star, Lucifer – the Devil. You need a thorough reading of these passages: Ez. 27, 28:1-20; Is. 14:12-21. Are you aware that Jesus is also addressed as the Son of the Morning Star? Rose, Rose, where did you get all these? I read a lot Sr. I know God Himself is the Morning Star and the sons of God are equally son of the Morning Star as explained earlier. Take for instance Job. 1:6 says “one day the sons of God came to present themselves before God and Satan came with them…” Remember that Satan was in union with God – an angel of God- some say, second in command. He was a bearer or symbol of light before darkness was found in him (cf. Ez. 28:15). And you know too that Jesus is the only begotten Son of God who has greater right to that title, Son of the Morning Star because the Bible says in Jn. 1:3 that all things were made through Him (Jesus Christ) and without him nothing came to be. Whatever has come to be, found life in him, life that for humans was also light. Light that shines in the dark: light that darkness could not overcome. Understood And more so, look Rose, Rev 22:16 says I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this testimony for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star. So, Jesus is even not just the Son of the Morning Star but the Morning Star Himself – God. More clear than ever. You are welcome. Back to the question of Jesus dying in the hands of men – And you must know too that Jesus must die to save the world from the power of death; for Dying he destroyed our death. Not only that, he ROSE and by his rising he restored our Life And He is coming in GLORY to Judge the Living and the Dead. This is what we profess as the Proclamation of our faith – at Mass! But many non-Christian do not believe that Jesus Christ rose from the dead That is true – even the Jews till today. Why? I should think that it was the fault of Jesus How? When he rose he only appeared to his disciples and not to those who persecuted him. He could have shown himself to people like Pilate, Herod and the Pharisees and Sadducees. That could have solved the problem and the whole world must have been his followers. Yeah. However our ways are not God’s way and our thinking are not His (cf Is. 55:8). If things happened like that, then there would be no space for FAITH. You remember that one of his apostles Thomas equally did not believe at first until he actually saw with his own eyes that the Lord has Risen. And Jesus said, blessed are those who do not see yet they believed (Jn. 20: 29). That is the way God wants it. Notwithstanding, Jesus Christ is manifesting himself in our day-to-day life even to the pagans because He lives forever. Is it actually true that Jesus is coming back again? Yes, it is true. Jesus himself said it. His followers believe it and even the Muslims are waiting for his coming. When and How? That is left for God to decide. No one knows, not even the angels nor the son of man. The only thing that is sure is that His coming will be like a thief in the night. So be always prepared and do everything as if it were your last so that when that day comes, it will not get you unprepared. (cf. Matt. 24:36; Act. 1:7ff ; 1Thess. 5:1-2; 2Tim 3:1-5). “The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may follow all the words of this law.” Deut 29:29 Ah Sr., Thanks so much. I am much enlightened and relieved now. I think I am more strengthened in faith and can face any challenges now. That is good! I have taken your time? Not at all! I am doing my job.
