CHANCE The chance of a coin falling either heads or tails is dependent on the viewing conditions, not the coin. Viewed from above it might be heads, but from below it would be tails. We generally privilege the view from above. The coin itself remains unchanged before and after it is thrown. We can extract a universal rule or definition from this simple observation: chance and randomness describe situations and structures that have either not been fully described, or have parts that are privileged over other parts.
